A Starry Night and A Magnificent Sunset

Me too Vincent.

And welcome back to the world Sunset at Montmajour!

This week an 1888 painting tucked in a Norwegian attic was authenticated as a Van Gogh.  (By the same museum that said it was a forgery years before, opps.)  If you’ll be in Amsterdam, the painting goes on display (finally) on September 24th. So cool!

For those who love a mystery,  I recommend an excellent documentary with similar art intrigue, NOVA’s Mystery of a Masterpiece. Art experts investigate whether a portrait sold in New York for about $20,000  is actually by Leonardo Da Vinci.

Trace history across the globe with amazing technology using the clues in the painting and the painting itself. It appealed to our entire family, and just may convert any CSI/Bones/Rizzoli & Isles detective fans you may have too.   //

Another example is (or isn’t) an Italian painting spied hanging in the dining room of a Jesuit residence in Dublin. Is it a long lost 17th century masterpiece?  If you’re intrigued grab a cup of tea or a glass of Chianti, and read “The Lost Painting” by Jonathan Harr.

Check out one of these mysteries, or just be inspired by Van Gogh.

Or both.

I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.

Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.

Vincent Van Gogh

Checking our attic for treasures, but wait–we don’t have one, drat.
