Waving to the Bus, then Turning Around

The end of the 1st week of school.

Congratulations on Back to School to all who have kids, work with kids, know some kids or have been kids.  Turn around and enjoy the moments. On their way Whew.  Some time to reflect. Or a moment to pack snacks and waters before soccer games. I’ll try both.

It can be glorious

It can be bittersweet.

Turn and wave as they are making their own lunches, completing their own stacks of forms, and driving to school. Gratitude and pride balance with maternal trepidation, are they ready? Have we prepared them enough?  Please don’t let anyone dim the bright light that is you; my child.

Roots and Wings. Always remember roots and wings.

This quote rings so true.

“The days are long, but the years are short.” ― Gretchen Rubin, The Happiness Project

Yesterday?

My sisters

And Blink! Time flies.

Things 3 & 4Thing 1 and Thing 2 (Boardwalk and deck are not a metaphor, just a coincidence. Maybe a ‘sweet moments captured while walking’ theme?)

When I was a babysitter, I would sing the following song to small charges.  And then swing the kids in circles. They loved it.  I had almost forgotten this song. (Not ever a Kingston Trio fan, but maybe from the radio or included in a beginners piano book.)

1st audio link, I think it works!  Less irritating than the ‘Cat’s in the Cradle’ (always a station changer for me).

Turn Around

Where are you going
My little one, little one?
Where are you going
My baby, my own?

Turn around and you’re two
Turn around and you’re four
Turn around and you’re a young girl
Going out of the door

On Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, here is Jerry Seinfeld’s response to David Letterman when asked about being a parent,

“It’s like surfing on a rainbow.”
